Who doesn’t like to go out and get ready for it? With social media taking over our lives, it has literally become a civic duty to look your best when stepping out. Although using an eye pencil, mascara, and eyeliner has become every girl’s forte, it is the application of eye shadow that becomes tricky. When using eye shadows, it is important to keep a balance between over-doing it and under-doing it.  Here I discuss the various eye makeup looks you can pull off, depending on the occasion.

The ‘Wedding’ Look:

If you are going to a wedding or attending a family function, odds are that you will be spending a lot of time over there. For that, you need to ‘up’ your eye makeup game so that it lasts for longer than usual. Only one color with two shades is used. The lighter shade is applied in the inner crease and the darker shade is applied on the outer crease of the eyelid. A shimmery eyeshadow can work wonders for you if you are attending a party in the evening or night. This is also known as the basic Smokey eyes makeup. Bobbi Brown Smokey eye palette and Sonia Kashuk Showstopper quad are excellent palettes to try.

Double Winged Eyeliner:

In double winged eyeliner, two flicks are drawn from the edge of the eye, one from the bottom edge and one from the upper edge. Draw the flick parallel to get a clean look. This look is a bit dramatic and can be worn to a party, as well.

The ‘Regular Day’ Look:

Generally, women who have a regular office job don’t bother with eyeshadows when it comes to getting ready. Eyeliner and a kohl stick are all they need. However, if you are a makeup enthusiast then a natural look can work wonders for you. Neutral and minimal colors are used. Make sure, the color you are using is similar or if it is a shade, more than your skin tone. You can complete this look by using an eyeliner and mascara. Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics, Maybelline The Nudes Palette and L’Oreal Color Riche La Palette Nude 2 are excellent options to pull off your ‘regular day’ look.

The ‘Partying with Friends’ Look:

Going out with friends is pure enjoyment. There are no inhibitions and this applies to your eye makeup, as well. Using colored eyeshadow is a new trend and I must add, a bold one too. You can match it with your clothes or your accessories. The key is using one bold color and pairing it with a neutral shade. The bold color can be applied along the lash line or in the outer corner. Do not go overboard with your accessories and use a neutral lip shade.

The ‘Date Night’ Look:

Going out on a date is exciting, especially if it is with your hubby. It means a stress-free meal with somebody else looking after the kids, for a change! The date night look is also known as the ‘Candlelit Eyes’. It is essentially a Smokey eye makeup, which is enhanced by using light shimmering shadow under the eyebrow arch, at the inner corner of your eyes and beneath your bottom-rim eyeliner.

The ‘Simple’ Look:

Don’t be fooled by the word ‘simple’. If you don’t have enough time to get ready and think that putting on eyeliner will suffice, then think again. Using an eyeliner has to be the most artistic thing ever. One wrong flick and you are done. Using eyeliner is simple and time-efficient if you have practice. It gives your eyes a defined look and if you use it with a Kajal stick, then you don’t need to do more. There are different ways you can put on your eyeliner and it can still work for you.

Flicked Eyeliner:

Using liquid eyeliner is a better option if you are going for a flicked look. Mark the point on the outer side of your eyelid where you want the flick to end. Using a steady hand, draw the flick. Before filling it in, repeat on the other side so that both are equal. The type of flick you want depends on what suits you.

The ‘Model’ Look:

It is created with a nicely drawn eyeshadow and eyeliner. Eyelid creases can be lined to give a more dramatic look and you can actually play with colors over here. It’s a bold look and is usually reserved for photo shoots.
