The fashion industry is that of constant evolution and innovation, but sometimes, some trends are too good to forget about. The 90s were a decade of extravagance, daring trends and playful looks. The outfits were cool, sometimes daunting, and different. It came as no surprise when the 90s look came back in 2016, and ever since, it hasn’t left the catwalk. Here are just some of our favorite trends that have come back.
When high-waisted jeans came back, so did crop tops. They can suit all body types and there are so many different variations of them. We love the tiny crop top like this off-the-shoulder one from the Alice McCall Spring/Summer Ressort 2018 collection (left), but it isn’t necessarily practical for everyday wear. For a casual outfit, we love this simple outfit (right) with high waist, light wash jeans with a navy blue crop top with bell sleeves. Team this outfit with your favorite white sneakers for ultimate street style goals!
Leather jackets are so 90s, and remind us of the pop/rock scene. Saint Laurent had the dreamiest leather jacket in camel for their Fall 2017 catwalk, but for girls on a budget, here is how you can rock the look. A simple black one will add a grungy vibe to even the girliest of outfits—check out how it adds edge to this red A-line skirt! Leather boots will finish off the look beautifully.
Dungarees are a great way of making your outfits more playful and fun, plus, they are super comfortable! Creatures of Comfort had a truly unique beige pair of dungarees with silver detailing for their Autumn/Winter 2017, but if you really want to respect the 90s trend, all you need is denim! A feminine blouse can change vibes in an instant with a pair of dungarees over the top, it makes the look childlike but still cool.
Co-ords have been back for a while, but the key to making them 90s is with outlandish prints, like this one from the Erdem Autumn/Winter 2017 show. For those of you not feeling adventurous enough, then a simple print can still do the trick with a casual tee and a statement handbag. Curl the ends of your hair of a tousled, natural look and finish the look with sneakers or embellished brogues.
Last but not least, chokers. They are a must-have accessory that can make any look seem sexier. Even Valentino grabbed some inspiration from the 90s in their Autumn/Winter 2016 show! There are all sizes and shapes of choker that will match your current mood or your outfit’s vibes.
